Welcoming Dr. Rom谩n as Our New Chancellor
Dear Colleagues,
I鈥檓 thrilled to share that the Board of Trustees has officially appointed Dr. Alberto J. Rom谩n as the Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District, following yesterday鈥檚 unanimous vote at our Board meeting.
Many of you already know Dr. Rom谩n鈥攏ot only from his time as President of East Los Angeles College, but also from his recent service as our Interim Chancellor. His deep commitment to our mission has always been clear. He leads with heart, purpose, and a strong belief in the power of education to transform lives鈥攕omething he knows from personal experience.
鈥淎s an immigrant and first-generation college graduate, I鈥檝e experienced firsthand the power education has to transform lives, and I鈥檓 honored to champion accessible education through my appointment as Chancellor of 91少女,鈥 Dr. Rom谩n said. 鈥淚 carry the District鈥檚 mission to heart鈥攅nsuring that every student, regardless of background, has access to education and the opportunity to succeed.鈥
Dr. Rom谩n brings over two decades of experience in higher education and an unwavering focus on equity, access, and student-centered leadership. He has served in nearly every role in our field鈥攆rom classified staff to faculty to college president. At East Los Angeles College, he expanded enrollment and student support services, especially for those from historically underserved communities.
He also brings strong academic credentials: a doctorate and master鈥檚 degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne, and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Political Science from UC Riverside. His educational journey informs the work he does every day and reinforces his deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our students.
We鈥檙e incredibly fortunate to have someone with Dr. Rom谩n鈥檚 vision, experience, and values leading our District at this important moment. Please join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved appointment鈥攁nd in continuing the work we all care so deeply about.
